Can Microneedling With PRP Minimize Stretch Marks?

At Xage Medical Spa, board-certified physician Dr. Stuart B. Porter offers microneedling with the SkinPen® and Morpheus8™ technology in Provo, UT. SkinPen microneedling uses multiple fine needles to promote the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This treatment is easily combined with other treatments, including vitamin serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling helps minimize the appearance of pores, scars, and stretch marks and helps correct an uneven skin tone.

During a consultation, you can learn more about the benefits of microneedling with PRP. We can customize your treatment to meet your skin needs and goals. You may be a candidate for microneedling in Provo, UT if you have light to mild complexion issues. Patients with newer stretch marks, large pores, or light scars may also benefit from this treatment.

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur because of rapid stretching of your skin. Some common causes of stretch marks include:

  • Pregnancy

  • Weight gain

  • Growth spurts

Both men and women alike can develop stretch marks on different parts of the body.

Can microneedling with PRP minimize my stretch marks?

While it’s hard to treat stretch marks, microneedling with PRP at Xage Medical Spa can help reduce their appearance. This is only true if the stretch marks are recent. With this treatment, Dr. Porter can help you to slowly fade your stretch marks over a few months’ time. However, for patients with older stretch marks, they may fade, but many patients remark that they became more noticeable despite their skin looking healthy.

About Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a microneedling technology that uses radiofrequency energy for skin resurfacing. We use dual handpieces on the face and other areas of the body. The combination of both microneedling and radiofrequency works to stimulate collagen production, which leads to better-looking skin over time.

What does microneedling with PRP do?

At Xage Medical Spa, we conduct a microneedling treatment in a private treatment room in about 30 – 60 minutes, with numbing cream when needed. However, most patients report there is little to no discomfort during their treatment. First, we will clean the skin before we use the SkinPen over the skin. This emits radiofrequency energy that creates smooth results.

After microneedling is done, a treatment, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), may be applied for deeper penetration, which is especially beneficial for those with stretch marks or scars. If you opt for PRP therapy with your microneedling treatment, you will have a sample of your blood taken at the beginning of your appointment. Next, we will separate the platelets, growth factors, and stem cells from your blood and create a serum that is re-injected into your skin by Dr. Porter. Lastly, a moisturizer is massaged into the skin with sunscreen.

What to expect after microneedling with PRP

After your microneedling treatment, you may have mild swelling and redness for a day. It can take around 1 – 2 months to see your final results as the collagen and elastin levels increase gradually. Dr. Porter recommends that you schedule about 4 – 6 maintenance treatments every 4 – 6 weeks for long-lasting results.
