Why Would I need Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy treatments are a good option for patients who have veins that are visible through the skin of their body and face. Generally, veins are most prominent on the legs, and you may avoid wearing shorts, swimsuits, or any other clothes that won't cover up your veins. Dr. Porter will need you to be in good overall health before sclerotherapy to minimize the chance of reactions or complications. Also, you should not have a history of blood clots or be pregnant. He will discuss this with you in a private consultation.
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
Sclerotherapy treatments can be done in a private treatment room quickly and with no numbing agents. The veins to be treated will be marked, and the skin will be sanitized. Very fine gauge needles will be inserted into the veins for a sclerosing solution to be injected. The sclerosing solution will cause the vein to collapse. After the treatment is done, the needle will be removed and a bandage will be applied to the injection site to stop any minor bleeding. This process can be repeated until all selected veins have been treated. Sclerotherapy has come a long way from the old method of using often ineffective saline solutions. Our new and more effective solutions and smaller needles provide little discomfort, no “downtime” following the sclerotherapy procedure, and amazing results.
After Your Treatment Session With Dr. Porter
After your sclerotherapy treatment, you will be able to leave to continue your daily routine. You may see mild bruising, inflammation, or redness in the treated areas, but this will usually subside naturally. Compression garments may be recommended by Dr. Porter to improve your blood circulation after sclerotherapy for faster, better results. It may take a while for the treatment to show results, but your treated skin should change as the spider veins disappear or fade over time. You may require two or more sclerotherapy sessions to get your optimal results. Many of our Xage Medical Spa patients are pleased with the appearance of their treated veins after one session.
