What Is Microneedling?

Board-certified physician Dr. Stuart B. Porter is happy to offer microneedling (collagen induction therapy) with the SkinPen® and Morpheus8™ technology at his office in Provo, UT. Microneedling uses multiple fine needles to make micro-injuries in the skin to prompt the natural production of collagen and elastin in your skin. These are two nutrients that improve the overall health and appearance of your complexion. Easily combined with other treatments, such as vitamin serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling can help minimize stretch marks, scars, and pores. Make an appointment for a consultation at Xage Medical Spa to learn more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to personalize your treatment to meet your skin needs and aesthetic goals.

Morpheus8 is a fractional microneedling technology that utilizes radiofrequency energy for effective skin resurfacing. With dual handpieces, Morpheus8 can be used on the face and areas of the body for anti-aging, smoothing results. The combination of microneedling and radiofrequency works to stimulate collagen production for a long-lasting, improved outcome over time.

Who Should Have A Microneedling Treatment?

A microneedling treatment is completed in a private treatment room in about 30 – 60 minutes with numbing cream if desired; however, patients generally report mild to no discomfort. The skin being addressed will be cleaned before the SkinPen is introduced. Your microneedling technician will make passes with the SkinPen evenly over your skin. After the microneedling is done, a treatment, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or serum with a vitamin infusion, may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with sunscreen since your skin will be more sensitive following the procedure.

With the Morpheus8 technology, the handpiece will be passed over your face or body. It will emit radiofrequency energy in order to create smoother results.

If You Decide To Include Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Before the microneedling part of your treatment, a member of our medical staff will take a sample of your blood for your PRP collection. The blood will then be transferred to our laboratory for the separation process during which the platelets, growth factors, and harvested fat cells can be made into PRP. For the microneedling treatment, Xage Medical Spa utilizes innovative technology to create small holes in your skin. The little needles used will not damage your skin but instead will help stimulate the production of collagen. When the microneedling is complete, the PRP serum will be placed on the skin to sink in. PRP can also be injected into the skin.

What To Expect

After your microneedling treatment, you may develop mild swelling and redness for about a day, but this should resolve naturally. It can take around 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase until you see significant improvements in the appearance and health of your treated skin. You should schedule about 4 – 6 maintenance treatments every 4 – 6 weeks for ideal outcomes and lasting skin health.
