What Is BOTOX®?
Do you want to slow the signs of aging on your face from the impacts of repetitive facial expressions?
With BOTOX® injectable treatments at Xage Medical Spa in Provo, UT, you can delay or ease the development of dynamic wrinkles and expression creases. Board-certified physician Dr. Stuart B. Porter will provide BOTOX® injections himself after a consultation to make sure BOTOX® is the right injectable for you.
BOTOX® injections are a clean strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily eases the movements of the muscles used to specific expressions of the upper face area.
The lines created from these repetitive muscle contractions are referred to as dynamic because they are due to muscle activity. After a certain age, these dynamic creases stay in place, even if your face is at rest. BOTOX injections can significantly decrease the look of these lines by limiting the muscle movements and providing the skin overlying the muscles the opportunity to relax without interruption.

Who Qualifies For BOTOX®?
We are accepting patients who are new to BOTOX® or are a veteran BOTOX® recipient looking for a new provider. Dr. Porter will meet with you in one of our private treatment areas to discuss your treatment plan. BOTOX® can soften the visible look of lines on your upper face, like Crow’s feet, the lines between your eyebrows, and creases in your forehead skin.
BOTOX® can also be injected as a preventive treatment even if you do not show signs of aging. Think about how often you find yourself making facial expressions. BOTOX® can counteract these lines as an effective nonsurgical treatment.
Our BOTOX® Injection Technique
BOTOX injectable treatments are completed as an outpatient procedure conveniently at Xage Medical Spa. If it is your first time visiting us in Provo, UT for BOTOX, you may receive the treatment within the same appointment as your consultation with Dr. Porter. You will be asked to make a number of expressions using the upper face, such as frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will allow Dr. Porter to visualize where the injections need to be placed. BOTOX is most commonly injected between the eyebrows, on the Crow’s feet, and across the forehead.
Your face will be prepared and BOTOX will be injected through a fine needle, followed by a cool compress to help lessen bruising and discomfort. You can request a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is not needed. BOTOX treatments typically take around 10 – 15 minutes, after which you may get back to your normal activities almost right away.
After Your BOTOX® Appointment
After your injections of BOTOX, you can get back to your typical activities. However, strenuous activities like exercise should be postponed for at least a day.
You will be advised to sleep with your head elevated for the first night and to not touch your face where BOTOX was injected.
Your skin may be slightly red, bruised, or swollen for 2–3 days, but you should not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In many cases, it typically takes about 5–7 days before the full effects of BOTOX can be seen. The results typically last 3–4 months.
You should speak to Dr. Porter about when to schedule touch-up appointments at Xage Medical Spa to refresh your results.
